RE: What's a fair price? '05 Intruder

I don't do business with dealers that can play with the numbers game. They should be able to put a starting price on it so you at least know where they are starting the game.

RE: Thoughts on Monaco Camelot?

I have been looking at this one--h ttp://www.stoltzfus-rvs.com/searchengine/Details.aspx?diid=888946&bvdid=981&type=N&indid=3&sortCol=Full_Name&sortDir=DESC&page=1&Category=Class+A+-+Diesel We have an 02 Journey also. Just can't seem to get them to move on the numbers on a three year old "new" coach to what I think it should be. They have had it marked down at various times in the last six months to $210,000 but with a trade, it is a much different story. It pains me every day as I do vendor work at a car dealership next door three days of the week and have to look at it sitting there every day. Good luck in your search. Curious as to how it works out. And, if Winnebago went back to some decent stying instead of this contempory stuff they got now, it would be a new Winnebago.

RE: Would you buy this motorhome?

This is at least the second time this coach has tried to clear the reserve price that the insurance company has on it. It does have a relatively high reserve if I remember correctly. Damage does not look too bad, but a salvage title on it is going to severely inpact the resale value somewhere down the road. My thought is that a clean second owner title due to a repo vs. a salvage title trumps any rebuildable coach right now and for the foreseeable future.

RE: Anyone bought a new Phaeton lately?

Since it is Monday and I have first hand knowledge, I will say this. Spent a good portion of Thursday afternoon and evening at the Hershey show along with the entire day on Saturday. (1) Friends A purchased a new Phaeton. They were happy with what they got and it worked out to 19% off list while getting wholesale on the '99 diesel pusher on a trade. They were asked to show their '99 to a potential buyer Sunday afternoon and that showing ended up with that being sold also. Both units went through PDI today and are in the possession of their happy new owners! (2) Friends B purchased a new Fleetwood Discovery. Price war between Farnsworth RV and CampingWorld Sales. They wanted a 2009 Discovery but ended up with a 2008 Discovery being brought to them from the Chattanooga store. PDI done late this afternoon and in their driveway. List on the '08 was $223,231 and they purchased for a cash deal (pulled their trade of a tt out of the deal) of $144,250 plus tax and tags. (3) Friends C ended up after sitting in it for most of Sunday a 2009 Fleetwood Discovery also through CampingWorld Sales--Farnsworth lost out again. List price on the 09 Discovery was roughly $231,000 and they purchased it today with the PDI done this evening for $173,000 plus tax and tags. I on the otherhand, did not complete a deal on a 2009. I just could not get comfortable on the 13% under wholesale on my trade (Journey) which put me in a position of my loan payoff being 6% more than that number. Then, mostly because I am self employed, the financing wanted 30% down on the new coach. They were working on about 21% discount of msrp on the one I was looking at, but I did not feel comfortable with the payoff of the old coach and the 30% down. Probably should have gone for it, but I got cold feet. My friends think we should have taken the deal and moved on, especially in light of the bank failures today, which will probably make it impossible for us to get any financing now. Guess I will just wait out a dealer and see what happens and/or continue to carefully watch MRC auctions and see what shows up their in the next three months. Also spoke with a couple looking at the 09 AC Allegiance that was there. It was msrp at $340,000? and was sale priced at $223,000 plus. They offered $215,000 for it but it was not accepted Sunday afternoon. They were going back today and wait it out and see if they would take the deal or not. Since they live 20 miles away from me I drove by on my way home tonight and it was dark at the house. Will check tomorrow and see if it shows in their driveway. There were deals to be had, but you had to like what was available. CampingWorld Sales was agressively moving units. They may not have made much money, but they moved units.

RE: Is Winnebago next?

I think they are a strong company that will make it through a rough time. What I do find interesting is that I got a call from them yesterday. The Hershey show starts tomorrow and being a Winnebago owner, they were wondering if we were planning to attend. Told them yes, but I will not be looking at a Winnebago product. Short and sweetly I told them what I have told them in surveys before, the floor plans are poor for my taste along with the ugly front caps on the diesels. I will be looking at a new Monaco/Holiday Rambler or a Tiffin. The lady was nice and said that there will be some loyalty rebates emailed to me or discuss it with a rep at the show this week. I will be there and take the time, but I doubt it will change my mind. I sure do hope they survive though!

RE: Crying A at the Flying J

I stopped using Flying J's around October 2, 2007. 75 gallons of water from their fuel pumps into my diesel tank and 63 other customers with the same problems getting towed from Carlisle solved all the issues. Oh, wait, that's right, after I forced them to pay the $2,700 towing/repair bill, I still had a credit of 110 gallons of fuel to retrieve from them. Guess what, 3 weeks later, I got another 30 gallons of water from them at a different location. So besides being constantly dirty, rude staff, pumps not working, propane systems not working, etc., etc., I am using a different retailer. And don't get us started on their customer service from Utah, they are even more rude than the local managers! Thank goodness there is a new Love's at Exit 90 (1 mile out of my way) on I-80 and there is a new Love's being built on I-78 around Exit 24! Clean, friendly staff, and good fuel. Side note: One thing we have noticed is that using other fuel be it Pilot or Love's our fuel milage in our DP has gone up approximately 1/2 to 5/8th of a mile per gallon which seems to far out weigh the 1 cent discount.

RE: Taking the Class A North on I95 - Yikes!!!

We travel from our home outside Allentown, PA to Richmond twice a year along with friends that join us in Allentown with their motorhome. What we have found is they leave their home in upstate Vermont south to I-95 to I-287 and across the Tappanzee Bridge to continue on I-287 south into NJ; then I-78 west to Allentown where we join them and then head I-78 west to I-81 south to I-66 east in Virginia; after a short stint on I-66 to Route 17 south until it joins I-95 south of Washington DC. What we have found is that it adds about 15 miles to our trip, the time traveled has stayed the same. We completely avoid Washington, Baltimore, the tunnels, tolls, Philly, tolls in NJ, NYC and it remains a pleasant trip. Our friends with their 45' have had no problems with this route.

RE: Cleaning Aluminum Wheels

All info above is good EXCEPT for CarlGeo. His method will work in California but not on the east coast as I see you are in CT. Since we have a lot of acid rain and road salts used in the winter, our aluminum wheels without the clear coating will oxidize, haze in a matter of a few days after getting that first rain shower. A quick use of the Mother's is a good idea along with regular waxing of your wheels. I use Eagle One's Was-As-You-Dry since it is a spray on wipe off easy to use product. One possibility is that the clear coat on your wheels has already been stripped off. And if you are wondering, I own a wheel repair company, so I know of where I speak.

RE: Help-Tire problems

Since the campgrounds are close to me, I never go there. BUT, I have heard nothing nice about the Allentown KOA. There is a good looking campground along I-78 outside Kutztown called Pine Hill. www.pinehillrvpark.com They seem to be very busy and have alot of nice looking motorhomes there most of the year. Depending on when you were last in this area, it has changed alot!

RE: Help-Tire problems

If you are traveling in the Allentown, Pa., area, help can be found. There are tire shops available and there is a very good alignment/spring/frame shop in Allentown. There are also one or two good campgrounds available a few miles away. If you need something while in the area, let us know.
